Merit Badge Counseling

Use your hobby, professional skills, or personal interest to help a scout explore a topic of interest.

To become a merit badge counselor you need to do the following:

1. Register as an Adult Leader with Scouting America and the Troop

   • This requires YPT, AB506, LiveScan and registering with the troop just like you would do for overnight campouts.

   • Use https://my.scouting.org/VES/OnlineReg/1.0.0/?tu=UF-MB-023taa0132 to register with the troop

2. Complete Merit Badge Counselor training

   • Online Training About Being a Merit Badge Counselor

   • or watch out for District / Council organized sessions

3. Apply here: https://goldengatescouting.org/mb-counselor-application/

4. You can see our Current Merit Badge Coverage. We recommend you choose badges that you have interest and/or skills in and few Eagle Required merit badges. See the list of badges and requirements for each here. 

5. Once the merit badge counselor application is approved, you are ready to offer counseling sessions to the scouts.
