Checklist for Snow Camp
General notes:
Use layers of clothing.
Use synthetics or wool. Cotton kills!
Keep dry. Have changes of clothing if you do get wet.
Be prepared for temperatures down to 15° F at night, and either rain or snow.
Boots that are large enough that you can wiggle your toes with all socks on.
Basic Equipment

sleeping bag in waterproof sack
extra blankets if sleeping bag is thin
tent (ask quartermaster to supply one)
waterproof ground cloth (for inside tent)
foam insulation pad (2 recommended)
Clothing
snow boots (like Sorels) or
hiking boots (waterproofed)
gaitors (if not using high-top snow boots)
socks (thick wool or polypropylene) - at least 1 pair/day
socks (thin inner socks) - optional
extra underpants
thermal underwear (tops and bottoms, 2 sets recommended)
something to sleep in
shirts
sweater
long pants (wool pants, powder pants, or wind pants, but NOT jeans), 2 pair
warm jacket or coat
windproof outer shell
rain jacket or poncho
rain pants
wool hat
scout hat or sun hat
mittens and shells, or gloves (2 pair)
waterproof bag to hold clothing
Small equipment
fork and spoon
cup, bowl, plate
daypack
pocket knife
water bottle or canteen (1 quart)
first aid kit
medicines (leader must be informed)
lip balm
map (get from leader) in plastic bag
compass
flashlight with extra batteries and bulb
matches in waterproof container
small candle for fire starting
whistle (plastic)
some nylon cord (emergency repairs, etc.)
sun protection (SPF 15)
sunglasses, leash
large garbage bags
medium plastic bags (emergency wear between leaking boots and socks)
toilet kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, comb, etc.)
